The body of a man has been found at a train station carpark with the cops arresting another man. 

NSW Police officers found the body of the man at the carpark located at Station Street, next to Wollongong train station, on the NSW south coast, around 7.20am on Sunday.

The deceased person is understood to be a 68-year-old man is understood to have lived in the local area however he is yet to be formally identified.

A 37-year-old man was taken into police custody around 10.30am and officers along with homicide squad detectives have set up a crime scene. 

The man has not been charged. 

Earlier, on Sunday morning police officers descended on the area before the cops taping off the multi-level carpark. 

Forensic detectives were also at the scene as they scoured the located and collected evidence. 

Terrified locals watched on from a local and church and cafe located opposite to the carpark as police blocked off the front entrance.

Pastor Josh Hammann said locals were left shocked by the scene of police cars in the area. 

‘We understand something really sad has happened,’ he told the ABC.

‘It’s very much a police matter but our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.’
