By George! Amazon removes photoshopped 2016 image of Prince George that showed the royal wielding a wooden machete as part of promotion for £19.99 toy sold on the online retailer

  • An edited photograph of Prince George six years ago was used in an axe advert
  • But Amazon has now taken down the image which was used by firm, Zhou-long
  • The original was taken of the Prince at his parents’ country home in Anmer Hall

Amazon has removed a photoshopped image of Prince George that was being used to advertise a £19.99 toy machete.

The picture of the young royal, snapped on his third birthday in 2016, was mocked up to promote an axe set from the firm Zhou-long, it has been reported.

But the controversial image has now been pulled from the online retailer after Amazon told The Sun that any seller who does not follow its rules would be ‘subject to action including potential removal of their account’.

One shopper, Frank Aldridge, shared that he ‘nearly dropped their cup of tea’ while searching the site for presents.

He said: ‘I don’t suppose this has the royal seal of approval.’

MailOnline has approached Amazon for comment regarding the advertisement.

The original photograph was taken of the little Prince at his parents’ country home in Anmer Hall.

He was captured wearing a £29.40 striped jumper by Pepa & Co partnered with Trotters shoes.

The picture, photographed by Matt Porteus, was part of series of four released by William and Kate surrounding his birthday.

At the time, Kensington Palace said: ‘The Duke and Duchess hope that people will enjoy seeing these new photographs. They would like to thank everyone for all the lovely messages they have received as Prince George celebrates his third birthday.’

Prince George turned nine on July 21, and a new official photograph was released in celebration of the day.

The photograph was taken by his mother, the Princess of Wales, on a family trip to a UK beach earlier that month after the three children broke up from school.

Royal fans have been sent wild over how similar George looks to Prince William when he was around the same age in 1990.
