Andrew Ochekwo, a businessman from Aba, Abia State, who was arrested in connection with the disappearance of two friends, Celine Ndudim and Afiba Tandoh, was killed by vigilantes while being transported to Abuja from Abia State. The incident occurred when Ochekwo attempted to escape during the transport, leading to his death. Despite his involvement in an organ harvesting syndicate, the vigilantes denied any involvement in his murder.

The case drew public attention when Harrison Gwamnishu, a human rights activist, raised the alarm on social media about the disappearance of the two friends who had left Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to visit Ochekwo in Aba. Ochekwo was arrested but refused to disclose the locations of Celine and Afiba. Further investigation revealed his involvement in a larger organ harvesting syndicate, prompting the police and the community to work together to uncover more details about the network and locate the missing women.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ochekwo’s death, amid numerous allegations and counterarguments surrounding the case. The Monitoring Unit was given a two-week timeframe to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report. The IGP assured that the case would be handled with utmost professionalism and integrity, urging all well-meaning members of the public and stakeholders to remain calm and allow the investigation process to proceed without interference.

Police Gives Update On Investigation Surrounding Alleged Murder Of Andrew  Ochekwo

Gwamnishu, who has been actively following the case, alleged that one decomposing body was found near Ochekwo’s residence, which will be tested to determine if it belongs to one of the missing ladies. He also claimed that over 80 million naira was allegedly transferred from Ochekwo’s account to an unidentified account after his death, and that one of his phones went missing. Gwamnishu called for an immediate investigation into the officers involved, stating that the officers at the anti-kidnapping squad should be investigated as fast as possible.

The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation and support of the public and assures that timely updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The case remains under investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
