Armed police descend on Kent playground after teenage boy is stabbed and rushed to hospital – leaving play park locked down

A children’s play park in Kent has been placed on lockdown after a teenage boy was stabbed in broad daylight.

Armed police, along with paramedics from South East Ambulance Service, descended on Medway Park Sports Centre on Mill Hill Road in Gillingham following reports of a stabbing.

Officers wearing white forensic suits were seen taking photographs and collecting samples in the children’s play park which remains closed off. 

Approximately eight police vehicles, including two armed response vehicles, arrived on Mill Road at around 5pm. 

One witness said that the teenager had been taken away in air ambulance.

 One witness told KentOnline: ‘The air ambulance landed on the park off Mill Road.

‘There were a bunch of police units there, including two armed police vehicles and armed officers.

‘There was also an ambulance and a critical care paramedic. It looked like a patient was flown to hospital.’

A Kent Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Kent Police was called to a report of an assault in Mill Road, Gillingham at 5.05pm on Monday 15 May 2023.

‘Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and a teenage boy was taken to a London hospital with injuries consistent with a stab wound.

‘Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and anyone with information who has yet to speak to officers should call the Medway appeal line on 01634 792209, quoting reference 15-1098.

‘You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or by completing the online form on their website.’

South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for a statement.
