School children are rushed to hospital with mystery illness after eating lollies on a bus in Queensland

At least 20 children are suffering from a mystery illness after eating candy on a school bus in Townsville.
The children, from Bluewater State School, are aged between seven and 12, with six rushed to hospital, while another 16 are being assessed by paramedics.
The children are suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea and intestinal pain. They are believed to have eaten a lolly.
The incident is being investigated by police after paramedics were called to the school at 10am.
In a statement Queensland Ambulance said a number of children are being treated for ‘minor illness symptoms after they reportedly ingested an unknown substance’.
According to its website, Bluewater State School has about 430 students from Prep to Year 6.

In a statement on Facebook just after midday, it confirmed police are investigating and parents have been informed.
‘The Department (of Education) is aware of an incident that occurred today at Bluewater State School which required the assistance of emergency services,’ the statement read.
‘School staff acted quickly to attend to the students while the Queensland Ambulance Service and parents were contacted. The Queensland Police Service also attended and are investigating.
‘Due to privacy issues the department is unable to provide any further information.
‘Bluewater State School holds the safety of students and staff as its highest priority. Guidance or counselling services are being made available for anyone who may require support.’
