The man is seen in the photographs riding an electric skateboard and wearing a white t-shirt and hat, grey shorts and Nike shoes.
The 64-year-old man had been driving in his car before he was allegedly assaulted.
Police said he came up behind a younger man on an electric skateboard and beeped, to let him know he was behind him for safety reasons.
Police said the skateboarder approached the vehicle, banging on the car and verbally abusing the passenger and driver.
The driver got out to try to calm the situation down before walking back to his car.
The man was struck multiple times from behind and continued to be assaulted when he fell to the ground, police said.
Police have said the alleged victim suffered significant injuries, including a fractured eye socket, causing him to lose part of his vision.
The skateboarder headed off towards Brighton baths in the Elwood direction, police said.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
