A shocking photo has emerged showing horrified schoolkids confronted with the scene of a bloodied body of a man hours after he was shot dead in Sydney’s south-west.
The photo exposes the grim reality of Sydney‘s gangland war after a month of carnage with five people shot this month alone, prompting NSW Police to establish new taskforce.
A man, 28, was found with several gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen on Broughton Street in Canterbury around 2am on Thursday.
The victim, who is yet to be formally identified died at the scene, despite desperate attempts by emergency responders to revive him.
Hours later, several primary-school aged children were seen walking past the cordoned off crime scene with the bloodied face of the dead victim in clear sight.

At the scene on Thursday an abandoned vape lay in the road near the body of the man clad in grey track pants and white runners.
A burnt-out white Holden Commodore was found on Beaconsfield Avenue in nearby Kingsgrove shortly after the ‘targeted’ shooting.
The car was found alight at about 6am on Thursday morning. A second car, a Lexus, was found burnt out on Dunrossil Avenue in Casula at about 3.20am.
It remains unclear if the cars are linked to the shooting.
Police will probe whether the victim had links to drug supply and if he had plans to meet up with two men when he was shot dead, police sources say.
Canterbury resident Chani woke up and heard a round of gunshots from the execution murder before racing to check on his children.
‘I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It was coming from the middle of the street,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘I don’t know if he was out there walking or whatever but they got him in the open.
‘I got up straight away to see where my kids were. Sometimes they get up in the middle of the night and go to Canterbury Kebabs, so I was worried.
‘I’m still shaken. It was scary. His body’s still lying there while they do whatever, the forensics I guess.’

The latest shooting comes just hours after leading criminal defence lawyer Mahmoud Abbas was shot in his driveway in Greenacre on Wednesday morning.
Daily Mail Australia doesn’t suggest the two incidents are linked.
Mr Abbas was shot in the right leg and stomach before being rushed to hospital to undergo emergency surgery. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The shooting occurred on the same street where underworld figure Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad was shot dead while visiting an associate in April 2022.
The latest incidents this week have prompted NSW Police to establish a taskforce to investigate the recent spate of public place shootings and associated organised criminal activities.
Led by State Crime Command, Taskforce Magnus will examine the links between shootings dating back to when Alen Moradian was gunned down in a Bondi Junction carpark in Sydney’s east on June 27.
‘Initial inquiries suggest the common link between the shootings is conflict arising from the alleged supply of prohibited drugs, particularly in the south-west Sydney area,’ a statement read.
‘In addition to examining the circumstances and links between the incidents, the taskforce will be responsible for ramped up activity to target and disrupt those still believed to be in ongoing conflict.’

Meanwhile on Sunday, three young people were shot in Greenacre in another suspected gangland shooting.
Ahmad Al-Azzam, 25, was shot multiple times including in the head while sitting in his silver Toyota on Mayvic Street in Greenacre at 2.15am on Sunday and is now fighting for life.
Kaashif Richards, 22, and Achiraya Jantharat, 19, who were in a separate car 50 metres away, were also hit and rushed to hospital.
Because of the high number of bullets focused on Mr Al-Azzam’s car, investigators suspect Mr Al-Azzam was the hitman’s target.
But the motive remains a mystery as none of the three victims had criminal records or any known links to organised crime gangs.
Earlier on July 7th, a gunman in a balaclava shot brothers William, 33, and Eric Siale, 20, at Abdel’s Salon on Marrickville Road. Both survived the attack.
On June 27th, Alen Moradian was shot dead in Bondi Junction. The 48-year-old was gunned-down during a brazen daylight ambush in Bondi Junction. Police say he had a target on his back.
