Beverley Callard could become bankrupt for a second time.

The former Coronation Street actress, 67, is under investigation after her acting firm failed to settle a £100,000 tax bill.

She and her husband Jon McEwan, who are directors of their company, set the entity up after she left her role as Liz McDonald for the final time in 2020 as a way to manage her money.

But, according to The Sun,  it went into voluntary liquidation last year owing HMRC £101,554 in outstanding tax and VAT.

What’s more, Bev and her husband are also yet repay £114,000 in director’s loans they took out from the company, which they have called JMBJ Limited.

Liquidators have told the couple that the cost of dissolving the company wil amount to £54,369.

New documents revealed: ‘We carried out an initial reviewof the company’s affairs, including seeking information and explanations from the directors by means of questionnaires. We made enquiries of the company’s accountants, examining company bank statements and other records.

‘This initial assessment revealed matters that the liquidators considered merited further investigation in relation to the director’s loans.

‘As a result, the liquidators have undertaken further reviews. They are making enquiries with the directors in relation to the outstanding balance owed.’

MailOnline has contacted Beverley’s representatives for comment 

If the director’s loans are not paid back soon, the couple will be make bankrupt.

Bev – who played former Rovers Return landlady Liz from 1989 – was initially declared bankrupt in 2012.

At the time, the former Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps star noted how ‘horrific’ had all been for her and how she had to rely on friends to get by.

 By early January 2023, Bev and her husband were renovating a canal boat and shared the progress with fans. 

She said: ‘In another clip, the actress said: ‘Good evening all this is our boat… I think rather than drinking pornstar Martini’s and Long Island ice tea’s I think it’s going to be soup and hot chocolate.’
