Dame Judi Dench, Piers Morgan, Claudia Winkleman and Jeremy Clarkson join Camilla at star-studded Mayfair lunch as Queen Consort proves Meghan Markle isn’t the only royal with pulling power

Dame Judi Dench, Claudia Winkleman and Jeremy Clarkson were among the famous faces to attend an exclusive Christmas lunch with the Queen Consort this week, it has emerged.

Camilla also rubbed shoulders with Dames Maggie Smith and Maureen Lipman at the ‘white truffle’ lunch, held at Murano in Mayfair, central London on Wednesday.

The glitzy event at the Michelin-starred restaurant, owned by Angela Hartnett, was hosted by Ewan Venters, the former head of royal grocer Fortnum & Mason.

The ‘Earl of Grantham’ – Dame Maggie’s Downton Abbey co-star, Hugh Bonneville – also made the star-studded list, which included broadcasters Piers Morgan and Chris Evans.

And from the art world came Royal Academician Tracey Emin.

The event was a purely private affair, meaning Camilla was not invited as part of official royal business.

It suggests the Queen Consort continues to have a certain pulling power among Britain’s A-list crowd.

Host Mr Venters currently runs Hauser & Wirth, which until recently was known purely as an art venture with galleries around the world, from Los Angeles to Monaco.

But it has recently broadened its horizons, opening its own Mayfair establishment in October, the Mount Street Restaurant – with a pub on the floor below.

Camilla and King Charles dined there only weeks ago.

Though the King missed out on Wednesday’s treat, he may be in line for a consolation: guests left Murano clutching ‘goodie bags’.
