Earthquake aftershock strikes Melbourne: City is rocked by fresh tremors

Melbourne has been rocked by aftershocks following a magnitude 4 earthquake on Sunday night.
A 2.3 magnitude tremor was detected just after 5pm on Tuesday at a depth of 4km in Croydon, around 30km east of central Melbourne.
‘We’re aware of a small earthquake near Croydon in Melbourne’s east about half an hour ago,’ tweeted Geoscience Australia.
‘Compared to Sunday night’s, it was very small, with only 20 felt reports so far.’
The organisation encouraged anyone who felt it to report it on their website.

Sunday’s earthquake struck about 11:47pm with an estimated magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale near Sunbury, 36km northwest of the city. It was later upgraded to a magnitude of 4
It comes just days after an earthquake, with a revised magnitude of four on the Richter scale, struck at Sunbury late on Sunday night.
More than 26,000 people reported feeling Sunday’s earthquake, from the border town of Albury down to the Tasmanian capital of Hobart.
Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Seismology Research Centre, said there was another earthquake in Ferntree Gully shortly after 5pm on Tuesday too.
One man living in Beaconsfield, south east of Melbourne, claimed he ‘heard’ it.
‘I thought it was a rumble of thunder when I checked the weather radar and no rain to be seen,’ he wrote on Facebook.
It was also felt in the Dandenong Hills, around 35km east of Melbourne’s city centre.
The Seismology Research Centre, which studies earth quakes, confirmed that a tremor was felt in Ferntree Gully measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale
Victoria State Emergency Service said no injuries or damage has been recorded.
