Elon Musk has taunted critics by lighting up Twitter‘s new X logo on top of the company’s headquarters in San Francisco.

It comes just days after the billionaire allegedly had the original blue bird sign removed from the building without notifying security.

Musk stunned the world this week when he revealed the new logo and moniker of the popular social media platform.

Posting on Twitter today, the Tesla founder posted a video of the X sign illuminating the sky as it made its way on top of San Francisco’s Twitter building.

Feedback on the switch was met with mixed reviews, with many taking the opportunity to mock the swap and removal of the famous blue bird.

Supermarket giant Aldi took a swipe at the new branding in its latest instance of poking fun at other companies.

The UK Aldi team shared an image of a ‘new’ logo, writing: ‘Now launching….AldX, (It’s the same as Aldi we just fancied a change)’.

Social media followers enjoyed the joke and rushed to heap praise on the team for light-hearted humour.

One person wrote: ‘Have to admit, this social media team is bloody funny. It’s definitely one of the best corporate accounts. I still remember the tweet about Eurovision scoring being as complicated as Tesco Clubcard prices from a few years back.’

Images from today show the new X sign towering in the sky as workmen finish installing it on top of the Twitter building.

The huge sign is even more noticeable at night – embellished with sparkling bulbs around its edges.

This week police were briefly called to the HQ after a worker began tearing down letters from the building’s iconic sign just one day after Musk rebranded the platform.

Police responded to a ‘possible unpermitted street closure’ outside the building on Monday afternoon after a man on a cherry picker was seen removing pieces of the company’s sign – but later said no crime had been committed.

As of 2.30pm work appeared to have halted for unrelated reasons and on one face of the sign all that remained were the letters ‘er’ and a bird.

San Francisco Police Department officers suggested the work had been authorized by Twitter but not been properly communicated with building security.
