Federal prosecutors considering four possible charges against Hunter Biden: two misdemeanor counts for failure to file taxes, a single felony count of tax evasion and a felony count related to a gun purchase: report

  • Charges are two misdemeanor counts for failure to file taxes
  • A single felony count of tax evasion related to a business expense
  • A felony charge related to a gun purchase

Federal prosecutors are weighing four charges against Hunter Biden, three related to tax crimes and a felony charge related to a gun purchase, according to a new report on Friday.

The possible charges are two misdemeanor counts for failure to file taxes, a single felony count of tax evasion related to a business expense for one year of taxes, and the gun charge, also a potential felony, NBC News reported, citing sources.

Additionally, two senior law enforcement sources told the network there is ‘growing frustration’ inside the FBI because the bulk of the investigative work was finished last year while the IRS finished its tax investigation more than a year ago.

But the decision on what charges to file against President Joe Biden’s son, and when, rests in the hands of U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was appointed by President Donald Trump and retained by the Biden administration to continue the probe.

There is no indication of when charges may come. Hunter Biden has denied any wrongdoing.

The Hunter Biden probe began in 2018 during the Trump presidency. The former president used Hunter Biden as a rallying cry for his base in his unsuccessful 2020 re-election campaign.

The initial investigation focused on Hunter Biden’s finances related to his overseas business ventures.

Over time, it focused on whether or not he reported all of his income and whether he lied on gun purchase paperwork in 2018.

House Republicans are also investigating Hunter Biden and his businesses.

And, earlier this week, a man serving as a supervising agent on a ‘high-profile’ criminal tax probe came forward seeking whistleblower protections while claiming politics are ‘improperly infecting decisions’ in a certain investigation.

That covert ask was deemed to be about the Hunter Biden case.

A lawyer representing the unidentified whistleblower wrote senators as well as inspectors general for the Justice Departments and the Treasury Department on Wednesday.

The protected disclosures ‘contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee’ and ‘involve failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case,’ according to attorney Mark Lytle of Nixon Peabody.

They also ‘detail preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected,’ Lytle wrote, in a letter obtained by DailyMail.com.

Hunter Biden purchased a .38 caliber pistol from a Delaware gun store on October 12, 2018 and reportedly lied about his drug use on the form.

The lawyer wants legal protections to share the information with Congress. Tax information is generally protected.

A 2020 subpoena sought years’ worth of financial information on Hunter Biden, who held a lucrative board position on the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a short response on Thursday when she was asked about a report that an IRS whistleblower had come forward to claim politics was affecting the investigation into Hunter Biden‘s taxes.

‘I want to be very clear here. The president respects the rule of law and the independence of the Department of Justice,’ Jean-Pierre said when asked about the investigation into President Joe Biden‘s son.

‘We believe that it should be independent. I’m not going to go beyond that.’
