Scottish soft drink brand Irn Bru has released a hilarious advert ahead of the Euros, which sees a kilt-wearing fan back the Tartan Army to go far in this summer’s tournament while making very colourful jokes about his ‘Mannschaft’.
The innuendo-laden ad revolves around the German word for football team and potential confusion over its meaning.
The patriotic video posted to X starts with a Scottish fan, dressed in a dark blue replica kit and checked kilt, washing his hands in a pub bathroom.
He is soon joined by a German supporter sporting a white top, a Germany-themed hat and a German flag draped over his shoulders.
The host nation fan turns to the Scot and says: ‘Hey Scotland. Good luck with your Mannschaft. Ja!’

He is soon joined by a German supporter sporting a white top, a Germany-themed hat and a German flag draped over his shoulders. The host nation fan turns to the Scot and says: ‘Hey Scotland. Good luck with your Mannschaft. Ja!’
The mystified Scottish supporter does not have the benefit of a definition and proceeds to get the word confused with a slightly ruder term. ‘Mannschaft, eh?’ he smirks at the camera. ‘Well Germany, you’re about to see what the Scottish Mannschaft is all about.’
The German then smiles and leaves the toilet while a graphic pops up given a translation of the German word.
The mystified Scottish supporter does not have the benefit of this handy definition, however, and proceeds to get the word confused with a slightly ruder term.
‘Mannschaft, eh?’ he smirks at the camera. ‘Well Germany, you’re about to see what the Scottish Mannschaft is all about.’
With the unmistakable sound of bagpipes playing in the background, the football fan strides proudly back into the pub as fellow supporters pile into the room.
He then grabs an Irn Bru from the bar, poured into an iconic German stein glass with a handle.
Carrying the large portion of the famous orange fizzy drink, the Scot continues his monologue and says: ‘Because for the last few years our Mannchaft has grown strong and mighty.
‘It’s a Mannschaft that knows how to go the distance.’
The cheeky advert raises eyebrows as a woman carrying a tray of German sausages walks past before the Irn Bru lover picks one up to eat.

He then grabs an Irn Bru from the bar, poured into an iconic German stein glass with a handle. Carrying the portion of the orange fizzy drink, the Scot continues his monologue and says: ‘Because for the last few years our Mannchaft has grown strong and mighty’
He then treads with heavy boots over a series of traditional German bar snacks, including pretzels and hot dogs with mustard. The Scot adds: ‘Our steins are always half full. So get ready Germany ‘cos the Scottish Mannschaft is coming’
He naughtily adds: ‘This year our Mannschaft could even reach a semi.’
The furious Scot then brandishes the meaty snack towards the camera and says, ‘Oh Deutschland…your Bratwurst is no match for our lorne’, referring to the square sausage beloved by those north of the border.
He takes an aggressive bite out of the top of the Bratwurst at which point two German supporters grab their private area and grimace as if in pain.
The Scottish fan then makes a tongue-in-cheek reference to the stereotype that Germans often claim poolside deckchairs at hotels before others get the chance.
Climbing onto a long bar bench, he says: ‘You may take our sun-loungers but you’ll never take our fountains.
‘Because we are Scotland. Land of liquid optimism.’
He then treads with heavy boots over a series of traditional German bar snacks, including pretzels and hot dogs with mustard.
The Scot adds: ‘Our steins are always half full. So get ready Germany ‘cos the Scottish Mannschaft is coming.
‘And we can!’
With a flourish, the proud supporter swirls his kilt away to reveal tight underwear with the words ‘we can’ – the Irn Bru slogan for the tournament.
A voiceover then says: ‘Optimism! Back in Scotland!’
The advert is the first move in what is set to be a mounting rivalry between Germany and Scotland this month.
The Tartan Army open their campaign with a match against the host nation in less than two weeks time.
Scottish hopes suffered a blow yesterday when it was revealed star striker Lyndon Dykes was ruled out of Euro 2024 after getting an injury in training.
Dykes, 28, was carried off on a stretcher during a session yesterday just days before Steve Clarke’s side begin their group stage campaign against Germany.
The frontman has scored nine goals in his 36 international appearances to date.
Clarke will also be without Everton defender Nathan Patterson, Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson and Brentford full back Aaron Hickey this summer.

Scott McTominay, John Souttar and Stuart Armstrong reported for duty at Scotland’s camp carrying knocks suffered at the end of the league season.
Dykes made 43 appearances last season for his club QPR and scored seven goals.
Making up the rest of Scotland’s group are Hungary and Switzerland.
