A grandmother died after she was hit by a Mercedes convertible in a horrific car crash which left her daughter critically injured and her 11-month-old grandson seriously hurt. 

While on their way to the pub Nicole Bowden, 48, suffered fatal leg injuries after being struck in the village of Mosteron, near Beaminster, Dorset, on February, 8.

She was airlifted to a hospital in Bristol but died there at 2.50pm on February, 9.

Her daughter Emily Fox-Williams, who is in her 20s, was critically injured in the incident, while her 11-month-old grandson were seriously injured.

Mrs Bowden’s husband, Matthew, rushed to the tragedy near their home and found his wife dying before the emergency services arrived.

Opening her inquest at Dorset Coroners Court, coroner’s officer Grace Monroe said: ‘On the 8th February she was walking with several family members when a vehicle collided with them. 

‘She was airlifted to a hospital in Bristol.

‘She was formally identified by her husband. Following her death there was a post mortem carried out on the 13th February by Dr Basil Pudue. She had leg and trunk injuries.’

The alleged driver, Shane Bovey, 40, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road traffic collision, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured, causing death by driving a vehicle while unlicensed, aggravated vehicle taking and making threats to kill.

The inquest was adjourned for the duration of court proceedings, which will take place at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Coroner Rachael Griffin said: ‘There is an ongoing police investigation and I will therefore suspend my investigation awaiting the outcome of the investigation in the criminal courts.

‘In respect of the deceased Mrs Bowden I understand there are no reasons for me to not release her body for a funeral.’

The inquest review will take place on September, 9.
