An adventurous couple could have the opportunity of a lifetime by running a 150-year-old lighthouse-turned bed and breakfast on an island in the San Francisco Bay.

East Brother Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast is looking for two new innkeepers to replace its current keepers Stephanie and Bryan Wesolek in April. The Wesoleks had also previously been innkeepers in 2014.

Every two years the lighthouse changes innkeepers, whose job is to maintain the bed and breakfast and chauffeur guests to and from the island.

The gorgeous property sits on a one-acre island in the San Francisco Bay near the tip of Point San Pablo.

The lighthouse has been an active lighthouse since 1873 and, in 1979, was restored and transformed into a cozy five-bedroom inn to help raise money for the lighthouse’s operations.

In order to be considered for the job of maintaining the stunning lighthouse, applicants must apply as a couple and one of them must have a valid US Coast Guard captain’s license. Applicants with children and pets will not be considered.

In addition to preparing and serving breakfast and dinner, the couple would need to be able to handle maid duties and ferry guests on the approximately 10-minute ride to the mainland.

The inn is open to guests four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday nights, while the island itself can be booked for day use or to host special events.

The couple that lands the jobs would need to report to the island in mid-April when they would then receive two weeks’ worth of training.

The couple’s room and board at the lighthouse would be covered by the non-profit.

The couple will also receive a combined salary of $140,000, plus $10,000 for insurance, and four weeks of vacation, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt said.

Although it might sound like a dream come true to live in a lighthouse, Butt says the two years will be filled with hard work.
