London travel chaos as rush-hour commuters battle severe delays on the Tube and Elizabeth line while stations shut due to ‘power failures’ and ‘low staffing

Travellers are experiencing severe delays on their rush hours commute, as disruption continues to plague the Tube and the Elizabeth line.

The travel turmoil continues as faulty signalling systems between Reading and London Paddington mean further delays for anyone travelling to or from the London station.

Only half of the services are expected to run from Paddington until 10am according to Network Rail Western.

These delays will impact commuters who need to use the Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line or any Great Western Railway services coming in and out of Paddington.

Network Rail Western have said: ‘We are working hard to fix a fault with the signalling system between Reading and London Paddington.

People took to Twitter to voice their discontent as severe delays on the Elizabeth line continued for the second day in a row

‘We are very sorry for the disruption and we will get the issue fixed as soon as possible.’ 

This is the second day of travel chaos for Londoners, with delays occurring across the city because of station closures and technical failures.

One commuter said: ‘This is getting so boring, come on this is now beyond a joke! #ElizabethLine’

At 7.43am yesterday, the Elizabeth line experienced severe delays due to a signal system failure. Later at 8.22am, travel on the line between Reading, Heathrow Terminals and Paddington had been suspended.

Disruptions on the line continued well into the afternoon, as further delays were experienced between Paddington and Abbey Wood/Shenfield, as well as the stations previously mentioned. 

Clapham Common station was shut the same morning, because of a ‘power failure’ for Northern line users, while Convent Garden station was also closed due to an ‘unavailability of staff’.

Commuters are not happy about continued signal failures on London’s newest line

Both the Circle line and Victoria line experienced minor delays due to train cancellations and faulty trains. 

The Circle line resumed service as usual at 10.55am, while only a minute later the District line began to experience minor delays between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway 

Tram services between Arena and Elmers End were halted and later experienced severe disruptions when restarted later in the day because of ‘tram shortages’.

Pre-planned closures also mean that the Bakerloo line will not be running between Euston and Watford junction from 24 July until 30 July. There will also be no Overground services between  Queens Park and Harrow and Wealdstone between 23 July to 30 July.
