A shocking photo has emerged of a 13-year-old boy posing with a large knife – just hours before he was accused of causing the deaths of two women and a girl in a car crash.

The unnamed boy was filmed travelling with a 15-year-old girl on the day of the crash in Maryborough, Queensland on April 30.

It is believed that the boy had been picked up by the girl at his home in Bundaberg before the teens travelled to Maryborough.

On the way there, the boy allegedly posed with a 20-30cm blade, with the girl appearing to egg him on in the background.

After arriving in Maryborough, the pair separated before the boy allegedly stole a Mercedes-Benz, which later clipped the back of another car.

That car, carrying two women and a teen, was shunted into a car driven by nurse Sheree Robertson, 52. She was killed in the collision along with Kelsie Davies, 17, and pastor Michale Chandler, 29 from the first car.

A fourth woman, Kaylah Behrens, 23, who was in the car with Ms Davies and Ms Chandler, survived the impact but remains in critical condition.

The boy has since been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death.

The 15-year-old girl has been charged with stealing two cars from Maryborough.

Police say another teenager, also 13, helped steal the Mercedes but was not in the vehicle at the time of the fatal crash.

According to the Courier Mail, photos of the boy posing with a knife and others of him in the car could be from separate events, with police currently investigating.

The 15-year-old girl’s alleged role in the incident was exposed by her own sister through an exchange on a local Facebook group.

In one post the sister, who cannot be named for legal reasons says ‘(the girl) makes her own choice…yeah she’s friends with (name of 13-year-old), yeah she brang (him) to Maryborough the night he got into an accident but still gives use no right to run her down about it.’

She also claims in a post the 13-year-old boy ‘never meant it (the crash) intentionally’.

She also claims that he suffers from ‘mental health issues’ and the crash would not have happened had he not been ‘chased’ by ‘grubby people’.

There is no indication of a car chase and police deny one took place.

‘My condolences go out to the family who have lost their loved ones, it’s unfortunate that they lost their lives, still, as I said, he didn’t mean it,’ the sister finished.

The posts attracted strong criticism, with one person writing: ‘She’s 15 and driving to Bundy to go get a 13-year-old who she brings back to Maryborough and he (allegedly) kills three people, possibly 4 and you think no one had the right to run her down? U must be on drugs too or delusional’.

The Maryborough teen is expected to face court on charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs later this month.

Police have found no evidence a passenger ran from the alleged stolen Mercedes-Benz after the crash.

It’s alleged the Mercedes-Benz was stolen from a home on Dalhousie Street, 2.5km from the crash site, at 8.40pm on Sunday.

CCTV footage showed two hooded figures taking the car.

Police believe the car was then driven around Maryborough and Hervey Bay before it collided with a Holden travelling south on Saltwater Creek Road at about 10.45pm.

The force of the crash then sent the Holden into a Mazda that was driving in the opposite direction.

Maryborough Hospital nurse Ms Robertson was driving the Mazda home after her shift and was killed.

GoFundMe by Reach Church had raised $59,213 for the four women’s families by Thursday afternoon, including a $4,000 donation from another local church.

The 13-year-old charged driver was treated for minor foot injuries following the horror crash before he was taken into custody at Maryborough watch house.
