A young popular hairdresser who mysteriously vanished while out with friends hasn’t seen or heard from in a week before a ‘strange’ Instagram post was shared two days later.

Dakota Lee Nagel, 24, left her Doncaster home in Melbourne‘s north-east at 2am on January 8 to visit several clubs and bars with mates in Prahran and South Yarra.

She left her friends the following afternoon on Sunday and has not been in contact with any friends or loved ones since.

A police investigation was launched three days later on Wednesday when her mum reported her missing.

Her distraught loved ones have launched a desperate plea for help from the public and say her disappearnce is out of character as she was about to become an aunt for the first time.

Adding to the heartache is a final chilling Instagram post uploaded on Ms Nagel’s hair extension business’ Instagram page.

The post is of her family’s late dog dated Tuesday January 10, two days after she was last seen or heard from.

No caption was added to the photo from her iPhone’s lock screen, sparking alarm from friends and family.

The chilling post has been inundated with messages of Ms Nagel’s concerned friends begging her to come home.

‘Get home safe daks, Everyone wants to know your okay.  You’re loved by so many,’ one wrote.

Another friend added: ‘I hope you are safe Dakota. I have reported this image to Crime stoppers so hopefully they are able to track the location it was posted from.’

One follower suggested the post looked like a screenshot of the wallpaper of a locked phone.

One of Ms Nagel’s friends replied: ‘Yes, it is significant because she has been missing since the 8th and this is dated on the 10th.’

Her frantic family say detectives are looking into the Instagram post.

Friends, family and police hold grave concerns for Ms Nagel, whose disappearance is considered out of character.

‘Our family are worried sick and her puggy fur-babies are distraught. She would not have left them this long,’ her aunt Anne-Maree Key wrote on Friday.

‘Her fur-kids are her life and mean as much to her as ours do. She’s also about to become an aunty and is so excited, so there’s no way she would miss it.

‘This is out of character for her to not contact someone.’

A cousin added: ‘Please pray for her safe return home.’

The Missing Persons Squad finally launched a public appeal on Sunday, a week after the hairdresser vanished without a trace.

‘She has a wide circle of friends and often attends licensed venues in the Prahran area,’ police said.

‘At times friends will not hear from her for a day or two, however it is unusual for her not to have contacted anyone for this length of time.’
