Ohio cop Ricky Anderson is indicted for the murder of Donavan Lewis, 20, after mistaking his vape pen for a gun during search warrant

A grand jury has indicted a former Columbus police officer for the murder of a man, 20, after he mistook his vape pen for a gun while carrying out a search warrant two years ago. 

Ricky Anderson, a 30-year veteran, was charged with murder and reckless homicide over the death of Donavan Lewis. 

Lewis died in the early hours of of August 30, 2022, after the 3am raid on his home in the Hilltop district of the city, which was recorded on police body cameras.

Police knocked on the door for several minutes, and handcuffed two men who came out of the apartment. They sent in a K-9, and when the dog indicated a third man was in the room the K-9 handler opened the door, firing his gun a second later and killing Lewis.
