Paramedics rush to busy shopping centre after woman in her 20s ‘falls from balcony’ as another shopper, in her 80s, is injured

  • The woman fell from the balcony of The Glades in Bromley, south east London  

A woman fell from the balcony of a shopping centre and landed on an elderly pensioner, with paramedics rushing both of them to hospital.

Emergency services were called to The Glades in Bromley, south east London shortly after 2pm yesterday to reports of someone falling from a height.

A woman, believed to be in her 20s, is understood to have fallen from the shopping centre balcony and landed on a second women, thought to be in her 80s.

The younger woman was taken to a major trauma centre in south London, however, her condition is not thought to be life threatening. 

The older woman’s injuries were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a local hospital.  

Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant to come forward.

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Around 2.16pm Monday, July 24, officers were called to a fall from height at The Glades, Bromley. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service.

‘A woman – believed in her 20s – is believed to have fallen from a balcony. She was taken to a south London hospital where her condition is not believed to be life threatening.

‘Another woman, aged in her 80s, was found with injuries caused as a result of the fall. She was treated at the scene.

‘Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 3881/24Jul.’

The London Ambulance Service sent three ambulance crews, a fast response car, an emergency responder team, and an incident response officer to the scene.

The incident was also attended by a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance service.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 2.13pm on Monday (July 24) to reports of a person falling from height in the High Street, Bromley.

‘We sent three ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, a volunteer emergency responder team and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a paramedic and a doctor in a car.

‘The first paramedic arrived in around three minutes.

‘We treated a patient at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority. We also treated a second patient and took her to a local hospital.’
