Timothée Chalamet radiated Bob Dylan’s iconic cool when he was spotted filming the biopic A Complete Unknown on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old actor was joined on set in Hoboken, New Jersey, by his costar Elle Fanning, 26.

Chalamet channeled the iconic folk singer–turned–rock prophet in a set of black sunglasses that matched Dylan’s iconic 1960s look, along with a mass of appropriately curly hair.

A Complete Unknown, which is directed and co-written by Logan and Ford V. Ferrari filmmaker James Mangold, traces Dylan’s move to New York City in 1961 to establish himself as a folk singer.

The film follows his astounding artistic development in the first half of the decade, which saw him move on from protest songs and folk standards to forming a band and ‘going electric.’

The move was controversial at the time, and Dylan angered many fans of his more introspective folk music with the turn toward rock, though he would go on to record some of the greatest albums of the decade in short succession after the transition.

The singer–songwriter’s stand-in was dressed casually on set in a brown suede jacket.

He wore it over a black shirt and a set of slim dark blue jeans, and he rocked a pair of black Cuban heels, also known as Beatle boots, as they were intimately identified with his friends in The Beatles, who regularly wore the slim boots with modest heels in their early days.

Timothée was joined for a scene set on the street featuring his costar Elle Fanning.

She plays Suze Rotolo, Dylan’s girlfriend from 1961 to 1964.

Fanning was dressed in a casual beige jacket with cropped khakis and dark green canvas sneakers.

She wore an olive green backpack and slim black sunglasses complementing her costar’s that were framed by her long blond locks.

She sat beyond Timothée on a red-and-silver Triumph motorcycle and wrapped her arms around his chest while scrunching her face up in fear as he appeared about to zoom away.

Rotolo was a major influence on the future hitmaker’s songwriting at the time, and she was famously featured snuggling up against him affectionately as they trudged through the snow on the iconic cover of his 1963 sophomore album The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.

In 1962, she went on a trip to Italy with her mother, which she later informed Dylan had been extended to what would be six months.

During their time apart, the musician wrote some of his greatest early love songs, most have which appeared in his set lists here and there for decades to come, including Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright, One Too Many Mornings, Tomorrow Is A Long Time and Boots Of Spanish Leather.

Rotolo’s leftist upbringing is also said to have influenced Dylan’s political awaken in the early ’60s, and he has credited her with piquing his interest in the French poet Arthur Rimbaud and the playwright Bertolt Brecht, both of whom he credits with influencing his songwriting.

It’s not clear what year the Complete Unknown scene is set in, but Dylan’s attire, sunglasses and shaggy hair suggest that it might be toward the end of their romance.

It’s unclear if the scene is supposed to work as foreshadowing in the final film, as a red Triumph plays a pivotal role in Dylan’s career.

In 1966, Dylan crashed his ’64 Triumph Tiger 100 near his manager’s home in Woodstock, New York.

He has claimed to have broken several vertebrae in his neck and suffered cuts across his face.

However, the extent of his injuries has remained unclear, as he was apparently not hospitalized immediately after the incident.

But after the crash he largely withdrew from public life and switched to more intimate folk and country–inspired songwriting in albums from the late ’60s.

He ended his frenetic touring schedule and didn’t tour again for eight years, while only playing sporadic concerts and making guest appearances.
