The central London property market boomed in 2022, with ‘effectively one billionaire buyer a week’ snapping up some of the nation’s most exclusive homes.
Plenty of the biggest spenders were foreign investors, including a Swiss billionaire and Turkish e-commerce tycoon.
In total, 52 sales of £15 million or above amounted to £1.5 billion worth of real estate changing hands last year.
Beauchamp Estates founding director Gary Hersham told The Times up to half of this year’s big-money sales were American buyers capitalising on the US dollar’s strength in comparison to the unpredictable sterling.

‘[This] has given them an enormous price discount and paid for stamp duty and moving-in fees,’ Hersham said.
‘During 2022 there has effectively been one billionaire buyer property deal a week in central London.’

Ernesto Bertarelli, a Swiss billionaire who inherited ownership of his grandfather’s pharmaceutical company, purchased a home in central London in June.
The sprawling 19th century mansion has 80 rooms, its own 20-metre swimming pool, gym and cinema.

Wiltshire estate, £80 million
Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone co-founder and CEO, picked up Conholt Park for a cool £80 million in September.
The estate spans 2,500 acres, including the mansion and stables, and is about 75 miles outside of London.

Hyde Park Georgian house, £38.5 million
Subaskaran Allirajah, who founded telecom company Lycamobile, purchased a £38.5 million home near Hyde Park in February.
The British-Sri Lankan entrepreneur doubles as a film producer.

Knightsbridge Victorian mansion, £27 million
Hanzade Dogan Boyner purchased the six-bedroom mansion in Knightsbridge in the summer, according to the publication.
The Turkish businesswoman is widely considered one of the most successful female tech entrepreneurs after founding Hepsiburada, also commonly referred to as ‘the Amazon of the East’.

Holland Park home, £23 million
Physicist-turned-businessman Sir David Harding picked up the seven-bedroom home in July.
Sir Harding made his wealth through his investment management firm, the Winton Group, and his net worth is said to exceed £1 billion.

Kensington townhouse, £22 million
Euan Blair, the son of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, nabbed a five-floor, eight-bed house in Kensington in January 2022.
The tech entrepreneur surpassed his father’s multi-million-pound fortune with his own £700million business, Multiverse. The company is paid by blue chip firms to recruit and train apprentices in the tech field.

Primrose Hill residence, £22 million
Alexander Gerko, a Russian-born billionaire who founded trading company XTX Markets, picked up the seven-bedroom Victorian house in January.
He is estimated to be worth £2 billion.

Clelia Haji-Ioannou, who holds a large stake in her brother’s airline EasyJet, and the daughter of shipping magnate, Loucas Haji-Ioannou, purchased the three-bedroom flat at One Hyde Park in March.
She primarily resides in Monaco, and her other brother, Polys, also splashed out on an apartment in the same building.

Online gambling billionaire J Russell DeLeon picked up a luxury four-storey, seven-bed home near Notting Hill in July.
The American investor became the first online gambling billionaire in 2005.
Sloane Square apartment, £20 million
Entrepreneur Bassim Haidar splashed out on a five-bedroom flat behind Chelsea’s Slone Square in May.
Haidar is a Lebanese national who was born in Nigeria, and went on to become one of Africa’s most successful businessmen.
