Yves Bissouma was reportedly mugged outside of a five-star hotel in Cannes over the weekend, with the robbers ‘spraying him in the face with tear gas’ before they made off with his ‘£260,000 watch’.

The Tottenham defender, who arrived at the club in 2022 after completing a £25million transfer from Brighton, was according to The Sun, arriving at the five-star Majestic Barriere hotel on the French Riviera this weekend.

The outlet claims that Bissouma, 27, was ‘pounced on by two hooded men as he got out of his car’ on the Promenade de la Croisette, a road that runs parallel to the hotel and the seafront.

The incident occurred at approximately 4am on Sunday morning, with the midfielder reportedly attempting to seek safety away from the muggers inside the French hotel – but it’s doors were locked.

The thieves had pulled his luxury watch from his wrist before departing the scene in a car.

The Sun adds that Bissouma and his wife were ‘left shocked and dismayed’ and had ‘returned to England later on Sunday despite being due to spend several days on holiday in Cannes.’

Police in France have subsequently opened an inquiry in to the incident.

And it appears Bissouma was today back at Tottenham’s training ground in Enfield. He posted a photo on his Instagram story of himself receiving physio treatment to his right leg.

It came after the midfielder had picked up a knee injury during their 2-1 victory against Burnley on May 11, with the Spurs star going on to miss their final two league matches against Man City and Sheffield United.

He did not feature in Tottenham’s post-season friendly against newcastle in Australia due to the issue.

Bissouma featured in 28 Premier League matches for Tottenham this season and got off to a flying start at the beginning of the campagin, helping Ange Postecoglou’s side go unbeaten in their opening eight league matches.

The defensive midfielder had seemed to take to life under the new Australian coach quickly, with Postecoglou bestowing in him greater trust to collect the ball in midfield and drive at teams.

His good run of form at the start of the season may have been impacted by a difficult few months on international duty with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.

While Mail would reach the quearter-finals of the competition before they suffered a defeat to the eventual champions Ivory Coast, it was revealed by his head coach that Bissouma had played with Malaria.

Bissouma had caught the illness during the tournament which was also being hosted in the Ivory Coast but went on to make an appearance in all but one game at the tournament.

‘You know Yves and Moussa were suffering from malaria, regarding the blood tests. It’s not so serious, because someone born in West Africa is used to malaria, he could play but for Moussa it was different,’ Mali head coach Eric Chelle revealed.

‘It was the first time he contracted malaria, so he started some light training. We’ll take things carefully, but there’s no outbreak or anything.’
