Two New Jersey teenagers, aged 13 and 14, have been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting a taxi driver in the head while attempting to rob him.
Kofi Addo, 57, was shot dead near Rutgers University last week by the group who got in his cab just before 10pm.
Three teens allegedly called the taxi to a location on Rose Street with the intention of robbing the driver, prosecutors said.
Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said that the teens attempted to steal from Addo, before one of them shot him in the head while he was driving.
As a result, the car crashed into another vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a residence on Sydney Place.

It was then that the teenagers allegedly fled from the scene on foot.
Addo, from North Brunswick, New Jersey, was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby area Trauma Center.
A police statement read: ‘On Friday, May 12, 2023, all three male juveniles were located by authorities assigned to the investigation.
‘Two juveniles were in Franklin Township and the third juvenile was in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The juveniles were transported to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office where they were subsequently charged.’
Two of the suspects, aged 14 and 13, were charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The third alleged accomplice, aged 13, was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Prosecutor John McDonald said the teens were transported to the Middlesex County Youth detention center on Friday evening.
The suspects are being held there while awaiting a family court appearance.

The three teens were found by police on May 12.
Their names were not released by prosecutors due to their ages.
The matter remains under investigation by police and prosecutors.
