Fisherman’s very Aussie reaction after he and his mates were pulled from the ocean clinging to an Esky when their boat sank

  • Four WA fisherman sent out a distress call to police
  • One man had a very Aussie concern when rescued

A fisherman found clinging to an Esky in the middle of the ocean had a very Aussie reaction when he and his mate was pulled from the water by his rescuers.

‘The other Esky’s got beers in it,’ he said, followed by a sigh. ‘That one’s just ice and bloody bait.’

Two other men onboard were also rescued separately in the operation after the anglers sent out a distress call about 7.25am on Sunday when their boat began to sink about 300m off Garden Island in West Australian.

About 15 minutes after the boat capsized, water police and marine rescue boats arrived on the scene.

By this point the four fishermen were already in the water, with the bow of the boat just visible above the water line.

Bodycam footage taken by the rescuing officers shows the moment they arrive on the scene to find two men with life jackets bobbing in the water.

The pair were helped onboard the boat before the rescue team found the other two.

‘We’ve got two onboard and we’re en route within a few seconds to get the other two,’ one of the officers can be heard saying.

Not long after, the two other men were found with their arms clinging to a massive bright green Esky.

The officers helped them onto the boat before fishing the Esky out of the water and lugging it onto the boat.

Police checked on the fortunate mens’ conditions and told them to take a seat.

None of the four fishermen, who had spent about half an hour in the water, were seriously injured.

Marine rescue towed their sunken vessel back to shore.
