The Devil Wears Prada broke the web this week when announcing a sequel is in development after 18 years with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt set to return.
However, since the initial reports were shared with the world, Entertainment Weekly has since confirmed that the entire original cast is now in talks to return for the sequel.
Anne Hathaway, Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Blunt are all in talks to reprise their roles.
In addition to the main cast being in talks to return, the original director David Frankel is also in talks to return alongside original producer Wendy Finerman.
The sequel is currently in development at Disney, as per Entertainment Weekly who exclusively revealed the news yesterday July 9.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the first movie’s screenwriter, is now working on the sequel.
Although various reports ‘confirmed’ the news, Disney has yet to officially announce The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is expected to happen once all the deals have been made.
2006’s The Devil Wears Prada was met with positive reviews all around at the time of its release, and earned itself an impressive $326 million at the worldwide box office.
Fair to say it made a profit on its $30-40 million budget.
Although it was a smash hit, its sequel wasn’t announced for almost two decades, despite fans of the movie hoping to return to its fashion world sooner rather than later.
With the original cast and crew being in talks to return, it’s likely that a story worth telling has been pitched, with Hollywood veterans such as Meryl Streep seemingly intrigued by the idea.
