Ariana Grande has called out how female stars are criticized negatively for their voices changing whereas male stars seem to receive nothing but praise for the very same thing.
The Wicked star spoke out about the double standard when asked about a clip from one of her interviews going viral over how her voice changes within seconds during the talk.
Although some were confused by the consistent voice change throughout the interview, Grande stated that it’s a “normal thing that people do.”
She says that voices change, which she told Evan Ross Katz during the July 9 episode of his Shut Up Evan podcast, especially when the voice is that of somebody with such a wide vocal range.
She also pointed out how she had to use a completely different voice for the role of Glinda in her upcoming movie adaptation of the iconic Wicked musical.
“I mean, you see male actors… It’s always after the fact that they’re like, ‘Oh wow, how dedicated to his craft!” she said during the podcast episode.

She continued to state that when it comes to male actors changing their voices, one example being Elvis star Austin Butler, people will just say “‘What an amazing transformation!’”
“‘He’s a brilliant performer!’”
“God forbid, I sneeze like Glinda or something, or if I make an intonation,” she jokingly added.

She continued: “It’s just that I’m crazy or ‘Should someone check on her?’ It’s the weirdest thing.”
Grande is famously known for having an extremely impressive vocal range when it comes to singing, and yes, when it comes to simply talking.
Her role as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat showed Grande speaking in a way that is almost the polar opposite of her real-life natural voice.
