Tragic news from the sports world! Greg Foster made history with his achievement in athletics. The American was the world champion in the 110-meter hurdles three times – in 1983 1987 and 1991. In 1984 the athlete also won the silver medal at the Olympic Games. But now sad news is spreading around the world: Greg has passed away at the age of just 64.

The athletics department at the University of California Los Angeles announced the death via Twitter. “The USATF is saddened by the passing of Greg Foster one of America’s greatest hurdlers,” the statement said. The sports icon had already struggled with amyloidosis – a rare disease in which protein deposits lead to organ damage. Above all his heart had suffered.

In the 1980s Greg was in a relationship and even engaged to the exceptional track and field athlete Florence Griffith Joyner. However, she died in 1998 at the age of only 38 as a result of a severe epileptic seizure. After that little was known of his private life.
