Katelyn Markham was a 22-year-old art student from Fairfield Ohio. She disappeared on August 13 2011 which made a lot of people worried. The police and lots of people from the community looked for her together.
Katelyn’s fiancé was the last person to see her before she went missing and he was the one who told the police she was gone. Even after the police looked for her for a long time they couldn’t find her.
Katelyn’s body was found in April 2013 in a faraway place called Cedar Grove Indiana. It was about 30 minutes away from her home in Fairfield. Katelyn was killed and the police called it a homicide. But they still don’t know exactly what happened to her before she died.
In 2015 Katelyn’s dad Dave Markham asked the Butler County Sheriff’s Office to look at the case again and try to figure out more about what happened to her. After a few months, the detectives said they found someone who might have been involved in Katelyn’s death but they didn’t have enough proof to arrest them.
Lots of different people tried to find out what happened to Katelyn. The Fairfield Police Department the Indiana State Police and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office all looked into the case and some private investigators helped too.
In 2020 a TV show called “Still a Mystery” talked about Katelyn’s case. People were hoping that the show might help them find out more about what happened to her and maybe even catch the person who did it.
The TV show talked about a few people who might have been involved in Katelyn’s death like Michael Strouse. He had already been found guilty of causing someone else’s death in 2019. But they later found out he wasn’t the person who killed Katelyn.

The police showed videos from cameras on their bodies and in their cars of them arresting John Carter who was Katelyn Markham’s fiancé when she died. John Carter got arrested at his job in Forest Park on a Wednesday. A group of important people called the Butler County Grand Jury said he should be charged with two counts of murder.
The police think that John Carter helped to kill his fiancé and then hid her body for over two years so no one could find it. The police arresting John Carter is a new thing that’s happened in the investigation into Katelyn Markham’s death which has been going on for a long time.
The police haven’t said anything else about the case but the fact that they said John Carter is guilty of Katelyn’s murder means they must have proof that he did it. The police are still trying to figure out what happened to Katelyn Markham and why someone would want to hurt her. They’re still investigating and hope to find out more soon.
If John Carter is found guilty of what the police say he did to Katelyn he could spend the rest of his life in prison or at least 30 years.
