The last time anyone saw Young he was leaving his home. His family got worried when they didn’t hear from him for more than a week. So they told the police that he was missing on February 14, 2017. Young’s family and the police thought something bad might have happened to him. So the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) took over and tried to find out what happened.
Less than a month after Young went missing someone found his body. It was on March 2 2017 near a rest stop on the Malahat Highway between Victoria and Nanaimo.
After checking carefully the investigators found out that someone had hurt Young very badly and he died because of it. They could tell this because his body had signs of “trauma and foul play.” Even though the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) and the Victoria Police Department (VicPD) tried really hard they couldn’t figure out who did it for six long years.
In 2019 the police said they thought someone might know something about Young’s death. But they didn’t catch anyone until March 15, 2023. That’s when they arrested Joseph “Bob” Gelineau. They said he might have hurt Young and did some bad things to his body after he died.
We don’t know why Gelineau might have hurt Young or if they knew each other before. The police haven’t said anything else about the case or Gelineau’s arrest because it’s now up to the courts to decide what happened.
Even though it took six years the police finally arrested Gelineau. This gives hope to Young’s family that they might finally get some answers about what happened to him.
