Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has revealed that he had to take it upon himself to explain what “pegging” meant to his fellow MCU team, who he says had no idea what it meant.
Deadpool & Wolverine are both finally joining Marvel Studios, alongside various other 20th Century Marvel characters, but for Feige to accomplish this… he had to explain “pegging” first.
The upcoming Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led movie is set to be the first R-rated Disney MCU movie, and it proved just that when dropping its first official teaser earlier this year.
Reynolds’ Wade Wilson aka Deadpool broke the internet when dropping the first-ever “pegging” joke in an MCU movie, which they shared with the world with the above teaser.
“Is that supposed to be scary?” Wade asks the TVA (Time Variance Authority).
“Pegging isn’t new for new friendo, but it is for Disney,” he continues to tell them.
Now with Feige’s revelation on how he had to explain that very term to his MCU team, this line in the trailer could very well be a meta-reference to that awkward discussion.
“I know what pegging is — it’s in the first Deadpool movie,” Feige told Variety.
“But there were people I work with who didn’t know what it was. I had to explain it to them.”
Feige also addressed the joke during the end of the trailer that shows Wade Wilson explaining that ‘cocaine’ is off limits, however, the MCU boss says he wasn’t overly against the idea of drug jokes.
“We were open to anything,” he said.
“Maybe I’m slightly prudish when it comes to drug use, but I was like, ‘Eh, it’s not that funny.’”
Deadpool & Wolverine comes to theatres on July 26.
