Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, also known by his initials M. K. Stalin, is an Indian Tamil politician now serving as the 8th and current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin, the son of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, has been president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party since August 28, 2018.
His political career began in his early teens when he and several companions founded the DMK Gopalapuram Youth Wing. He has campaigned for his uncle, Murasoli Maran, in the 1967 elections as a 14-year-old.
Stalin was elected to the DMK’s Central Committee in 1973.
He rose to prominence after being imprisoned at Madras Central Jail under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) in 1976 for protesting against the Emergency.
