Actor Nicolas Cage may have made headlines for announcing his retirement last year, however, his fans have been slightly confused as he continues to lead various new projects.
Despite stating at the time that he had maybe “three or four movies” left in him, he has since clarified that “supporting roles” don’t really count in his eyes.
Cage’s latest movie, Longlegs, is one he considers to be a supporting role.
While talking to The New Yorker, Cage provided clarity on his retirement plans, specifically in regards to his 2023 announcement of having only a few more movies left on his horizon.
“Well, I did two or three very supporting roles,” he told The New Yorker.
“So maybe three or four more lead roles,” he added.
“Maybe that’s more of what I was saying.”
Although Cage’s clarification didn’t come with a specific number of movies he has left in his career, it seemingly revealed that he himself isn’t overly sure how many he wants to do before calling it quits.
Since his announcement to retire from movies, speculation has been high that Cage will potentially continue his acting career but in the world of series for streaming.
In the animated, supporting role, side of things – Cage is expected to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in Sony’s upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse movie.
Cage will also be leading his own live-action series adaptation of Spider-Man Noir for Prime Video.
His additional announced projects include The Gunslingers, The Prince, The Carpenter’s Son, and Lords of War – however, there have been rumours of another project being in the works.
In a report shared earlier this year, it has been said that Face/Off 2 is in the works with both Cage and his original co-star John Travolta expected to return.
However, the Face/Off sequel has yet to be announced or debunked.
