Tributes are pouring in following the tragic demise of Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty, who passed away on Saturday at 53 after a valiant battle with breast cancer.
The Predator star Olivia Munn, who bonded with Doherty during her own cancer battle, also paid a heartfelt tribute to the iconic actress.
Munn posted on Instagram, “I am absolutely heartbroken over the passing of Shannen Doherty. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I remember how she bravely let the world into her journey and reached out to her.”
She shared that she developed a personal bond with Doherty over their “shared battle” with cancer.
She added, “We became instant friends, which I honestly couldn’t comprehend at times because watching her on 90210 was everything to me when I was 10. We bonded through a shared battle and a desire to help other women.”
Munn also praised the late actress and appreciated the unflinching support she offered despite her own illness.
Munn continued, “Looking back on the last text she sent me just a couple months ago, she asked how I was doing and if she could do anything for me… True to form, Shannen was offering her support even though she was in the final stage of fighting this horrific disease.”
She also added, “Cancer is really f—ing scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength, and grace. I’m sending all of my love to her mother, who was her best friend, hero, and champion every step of the way.”
Munn recently shed light on her cancer battle, which involved multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy. She was diagnosed with bilateral Luminal B breast cancer in May 2023 and underwent four surgeries over 10 months as part of her treatment.
Doherty, who is best known for her work in the series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, passed away after her nine-year battle with breast cancer.
She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After achieving remission in 2017, the cancer returned in 2020 as stage four.
