Sad news for all ” Police Academy ” fans! Actor George R. Robertson is best known for his role as Chief Hurst in the 1980s cult American film franchise. Born in Ontario on April 20, 1933, the Canadian began his career in theater before later branching out into smaller film roles. But now his fans have to say goodbye to him: the Chief Hurst actor has passed away.
His family told The Hollywood Reporter that the 89-year-old passed away on January 29 at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center in Toronto. The cause of death was not disclosed. George is survived by his wife Adele of 61 years, his daughter, grandchildren, and many other family members. A memorial service for the actor is planned for the end of March.
In addition to his acting career, George was involved in humanitarian causes. Among other things, he was a UNICEF ambassador in schools, disguised in his signature role. In 1990, a year after his last Police Academy film, he received the Danny Kaye UNICEF Canada Award for his service.
