After a challenging year, Marvel Studios is returning to the strategies that proved successful in the past, which means reuniting with franchise cornerstone Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers.
This strategic move aims to recapture the magic that made Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame the studio’s most successful films.
Bringing back these key figures comes at a significant cost.
Sources reveal that Marvel is investing $80 million for Anthony and Joe Russo to direct the upcoming movies.

Additionally, the studio is spending “significantly more” for Robert Downey Jr. to portray the iconic villain Doctor Doom in these highly anticipated tentpole films.
The Russo brothers’ agreement is notable for not including back-end compensation.
Instead, their contract features performance-based escalators that activate at the $750 million and $1 billion box office thresholds.
Moreover, the Russos will produce the two films through their AGBO banner, a notable shift for Marvel, which traditionally avoids collaborating with outside producers, preferring to keep production in-house.
For Downey, who helped catapult Marvel into a money-printing machine thanks to his turn as Tony Stark in the first Iron Man film in 2008, his deal also is filled with perks that include private jet travel, dedicated security, and a whole “trailer encampment” for the newly minted Oscar winner.

Downey is by far the highest-paid member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has pulled down between $500 million and $600 million over the course of four “Avengers” movies, three “Iron Man” outings, and cameos.
Still, some changes are in order.
While the Russo brothers’ previous two “Avengers” movies were filmed in Atlanta, the new outings will be filmed in London beginning in the second quarter of 2025.
This new partnership underscores Marvel’s commitment to revitalizing its cinematic universe by leveraging the talents of its most successful collaborators.
The return of Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers signals a promising direction for the franchise’s future, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the Marvel saga.
