American actress Sharon Stone has taken to Instagram to recreate her iconic ‘sexy’ scene from Basic Instinct, the famous 1992 thriller mystery movie directed by Paul Verhoeven.
She starred alongside Ant-Man and the Wasp actor Michael Douglas, Jeanne Tripplehorn, George Dzundza, Leilani Sarelle, and Wayne Knight in the movie.
The scene in question is arguably one of the most iconic scenes of all time in the world of cinema history, with it being known worldwide even by those who haven’t watched it.
In the movie, Stone plays Catherine Tramell – a suspected murderer – who when under interrogation by male police officers, uncrosses her legs to reveal everything down below.
Although the movie version of the scene isn’t exactly family-friendly, Stone’s recreation was a tad bit safer and more PG as this time she wears a full set of lingerie, jewellery, and high heels.
She also has her legs crossed, as opposed to how she performs the scene in the movie.
In her post, she captions the recreations: “BASICALLY ….YOURS.”
She also went on to credit creative director P Libby and makeup artist Amy Oresman.
Stone’s recreation was labelled as ‘bold’, ‘sexy’, and ‘daring’ by many who took to her post’s comment section to applaud the 66-year-old actress and painter.
“This is what we want to see more, women of a certain age bold and daring,” one fan wrote.
Another added: “Why can’t an older woman teach her body in a sexy way but a young woman can?”
It has also been said to be an unexpected move for the star to take as she has said time and time again that she was unaware of how exposed she would be in the theatrical cut of the movie.
However, director Verhoeven denied she was unaware during an interview with Variety in 2021.
“[I was told] ‘We can’t see anything — I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,” Stone said.
“Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls***.”
She stated that she had only seen the full scene during a screening of the movie, in which she sat alongside several agents, lawyers, and studio executives (nearly all males).
“That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time,” she stated.
She continued to reveal that she “slapped Paul across the face” after finding out.
However, she encouraged the audience to embrace moments such as hers, “The time to decide who you are is now.”
She added: “The time to decide what you do with the tender, important, beautiful, savage, passionate, most important part of yourself.”
“What are you gonna do with it?”
“I’ll tell you what I did with mine. I respected it. And I would suggest that you all do the same.”
“Because we have every right to be powerful in whatever form of sexuality we choose to have. And no one is allowed to take that away from you.”
