Tim Robbins has denounced conspiracy theorists who are linking Donald Trump’s July 13 assassination attempt to his 1992 political satire, Bob Roberts,
Robbins, who wrote, directed, and starred in the movie, depicts a conservative politician faking an assassination attempt to gain public sympathy and win a Senate seat.
Some users on X are claiming that Trump might have similarly staged the assassination attempt to improve his poll numbers, just like the plot of Bob Roberts.
Robin posted on X on July 13.
“To anyone drawing a parallel between my film Bob Roberts and the attempted assassination of Trump, let’s be clear:
What happened yesterday was a real attempt on a presidential candidate’s life.”
The Oscar-winning actor also blasted those online who are claiming that the assassination attempt on Trump was staged.
He wrote, “Those that are denying the assassination attempt was real are truly in a deranged mindset. A human being was shot yesterday.”
“Another killed.”
“They may not be human beings that you agree with politically but for shame folks.”
He continued, “Get over your blind hatred of these people. They are fellow Americans. This collective hatred is killing our souls and consuming whatever is left of our humanity.”
Earlier on Sunday, the former U.S. President was injured in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
Trump was rushed off the stage with blood on his ear and cheek following the shooting at the rally. He was hit in the right ear, and is now out of danger.
One spectator was killed and two others were critically injured in the incident at the Butler Farm Show in Butler City.
The Secret Service reported that its agents killed the suspected attacker, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Pennsylvania.
