One Chelsea player has spent a lot of time this summer practicing his finishing, so let’s hope that pays off when the new season begins.

Chelsea kick off their 2024/25 campaign on 18 August when they host reigning champions Manchester City in the Premier League.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has five more friendly matches to prepare in before that, including four more games during the pre-season tour in the United States.

It would be great if there’s not an over-reliance on Cole Palmer again to score the bulk of his team’s goals. When you remove his goals and assists last season in the Premier League, Chelsea would’ve finished 16th without Palmer, according to Opta.

Noni Madueke is someone that should be hoping to contribute more as an attacking threat. The right-winger has scored just nine goals in 46 games since joining the Blues 18 months ago.

Noni Madueke has been training his finishing

Saul Isaksson-Hurst, who works as Madueke’s personal football coach, has delivered some interesting insight on the Chelsea attacker.

He says that the 22-year-old star has really been focussing on improving his finishing during the off-season.

Isaksson-Hurst tells The Athletic: “This summer we did a lot of work on his end product, final balls, finishing but forward passing and crosses on the right side is something he particularly identified.

“When you play in that position you are going to be judged on goals and assists. The way the coach (Maresca) plays is going to suit Noni.”

Mohamed Salah should inspire him

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who played for Chelsea earlier in his career, has been one of the world’s elite right-wingers for many years. He’s the example that any young modern winger should look at, especially left-footers that cut in-field from the right.

Salah, 32, wasn’t scoring for fun earlier in his career, but he ended up transforming himself into a superb goalscorer as he developed. His record of 211 goals in 339 Liverpool appearances speaks for itself.

There’s not any kind of pressure on Madueke to suddenly turn into Salah because there’s very few individuals like him.

But for the £100,000-a-week (Salary Sport) Chelsea winger, he’d be wise to study the type of movement from the Liverpool superstar in the final third.
