Gary Cahill has singled out a current Chelsea player for some special praise because of what he’s done at the club since he joined.

Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill, who’s now retired, knows just what it takes to play for the club and be successful.

The English defender won eight major trophies during seven-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge between 2012-19.

It’s a little different for new Blues signings now because the club has gone back-to-back seasons without winning any silverware. Therefore, the pressure is only being ramped up on this young squad of players.

Gary Cahill amazed by Cole Palmer at Chelsea

Cahill has claimed that Cole Palmer was truly brilliant last season during his debut year in Chelsea colours.

“I think no one really maybe expected his impact to be as big as it was straight away,” Cahill told The Charlotte Observer.

“He obviously comes from the pedigree of Man City, obviously he’s used to the league a bit more than others. But ability wise, he was phenomenal last season.”

From a Chelsea perspective, the 2023/24 campaign belonged to Palmer. The attacker scored 25 goals in just 45 Blues appearances last season.

Can he now replicate the same level of success in his second year when there’s a target on his back?

When it comes to next season, Chelsea plan to use Palmer as a No 10, it’s been reported by The Athletic. It will surely benefit the team if the left-footed playmaker is frequently getting on the ball in-between the lines.

Is he the Eden Hazard replacement?

Former Chelsea hero Eden Hazard carried the Blues on his back for countless years during his time in West London.

The individual brilliance from Palmer was very reminiscent to Hazard at times.

However, if Palmer wants to be mentioned in the same conversation as Hazard in future years, he’s got to produce the magic for several seasons.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast back in February, Hazard called Palmer a “top player”. It would have been some sight to see them in the same Blues XI.
