Former England striker Alan Shearer has been speaking about Chelsea and Spain defender Marc Cucurella.
England, of course, take on Spain in the Euro 2024 final tonight, and Marc Cucurella is a nailed on starter.
He has been Luis de la Fuente’s first-choice left-back during the tournament and has not let him down.
When it comes to tackles, only Rodri (2.6) is averaging more per game than Cucurella (2.4) in Spain’s squad (WhoScored).
He has received boos in Germany after a handball incident he was involved in, but Cucurella says booing does not affect him.
Alan Shearer on Marc Cucurella’s Euro 2024
It has been clear for everyone to see that Cucurella has really excelled at the Euros.
And it is no different for Shearer, who thinks he has had a “great” tournament.
Speaking about Cucurella on The Rest Is Football, the Newcastle United legend said: “Cucurella has had a great tournament, by the way. Cucurella has looked really, really good.”
The 25-year-old will now be hoping that his excellent performances result in something and Spain go on to win the European Championship trophy later.
Chelsea linked with one of Spain’s other top performers
Spain have had a lot of players who have performed at a really high level in Germany this summer.
The above includes Dani Olmo, one attacker who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
It has been claimed that Chelsea have an interest in Olmo; however, the RB Leipzig star probably does not need to be a priority for the Blues right now.
Olmo, who has scored three goals and provided two assists at the Euros, is an attacking midfielder by trade. But Chelsea have Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, who can both play in that position.
Therefore, it would be a bit of a surprise if they went all out for his signature. Olmo can start out wide, though, so there is no reason why the Blues cannot sign the Spain international to play there.
