Enzo Maresca has just made an interesting claim about Chelsea youngster Marc Guiu straight after the pre-season defeat to Celtic.

Unfortunately, Chelsea suffered a disheartening 4-1 loss on Saturday night against Scottish champions Celtic.

There’s so much more to the pre-season friendlies than results as the players get up to full speed, but it was a tough watch for the supporters. The Blues went 4-0 behind before Christopher Nkunku’s late penalty, which makes it two goals in two games for him so far on this tour of the United States.

Marc Guiu, who’s aged just 18, led the line again for Chelsea as their striker.

The summer signing was one of the brightest sparks that at least showed some promise on the weekend, but there’s clearly still a lot of work to be done for new head coach Enzo Marasca.

Enzo Maresca claims Marc Guiu is currently set to stay next season

Blues head coach Maresca has said that Guiu is currently going to be with Chelsea’s first-team for the 2024/25 campaign. As it stands, the Spanish youngster is doing enough in pre-season to impress.

Maresca said in his post-match interview after Celtic, as quoted by Football.London: “The idea with Marc, with all the young players, is to have a look now and then make a decision [whether to loan him]. At the moment he is going to stay with us and not go anywhere.”

Many Chelsea supporters may have anticipated Guiu going straight out on loan despite joining from Barcelona this summer.

However, Football.London did previously report that Chelsea told Guiu he’d be in their squad next season.

Marc Guiu a rare positive against Celtic

Yet again, Guiu looked like one of Chelsea’s top performers in the opening week of pre-season.

The energetic centre-forward followed up his encouraging debut against Wrexham with another busy display versus Celtic.

FotMob data has provided the individual statistics from Guiu’s eye-catching efforts on Saturday against Celtic:
