It has been a bit of a mixed transfer window for Chelsea so far.

Chelsea and Todd Boehly will be happy that they have been able to do some early business.

The Blues have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham and have a deal in place for Palmeiras youngster Estevao Willian.

However, they have missed out on Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, who is set to join Bayern Munich, and are unlikely to sign Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Chelsea will not be triggering his release clause this summer.

Why Chelsea are missing out on some players

The finances involved for footballers like Olise and Williams are not small.

In fact, according to The Athletic, that is why Chelsea pulled out of a deal for the former.

Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed on Substack that the Blues’ failure to secure Champions League money is impacting them in the transfer window.

He recently wrote: “SPTC sources have heard that missing out on Champions League football has been a big issue financially and has stumped a bit our summer transfer plans.

“They all expected to get UCL and the financial rewards that comes with it. But not just UCL, also missing out on Europa League even has dented the plans. Both of these competitions offer financial rewards and better sponsorship deals.”

Chelsea can cope without signing a new winger

Out wide is definitely not the weakest area of this Chelsea squad.

On the right, they still have Cole Palmer, who was arguably the best attacker in the Premier League last season, and Noni Madueke.

Palmer came up with 33 goal contributions in as many top-flight games for the Blues.

On the left, they possess Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling.

Neither put up the kind of numbers Palmer did last season, but Mudryk is the fourth-most expensive signing in the club’s history and Sterling is a very experienced player in a very inexperienced squad.

Ultimately, they may still have something to offer next term.
