Brighton have reached a £34.5million agreement with Ajax to sign Mohammed Kudus on a club-record deal, talkSPORT understands.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Dutch side this summer following a fantastic 2022/23 season.
Despite failing to win any silverware, the versatile attacking midfielder chipped in with 18 goals and seven assists from 42 games in all competitions.
His dazzling displays led to interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, but the trio of clubs failed to submit a formal bid.
talkSPORT revealed in June how Brighton were eyeing up a move for the Ghana international.
And it is now understood that the south coast side have swooped in to agree a transfer with Ajax for £34.5m.
It is believed that the deal is inching closer to being finalised, with only personal terms needing to be ironed out before a medical can take place.
Should Brighton secure the services of Kudus, it would eclipse the £30million record transfer of Joao Pedro from earlier in the window.
Kudus has spent the last three seasons at Ajax, where he has won the Eredivisie title twice and the Dutch Cup on one occasion.
A likely replacement for Alexis Mac Allister, the ex-Nordsjaelland man will be Brighton’s sixth first team signing this summer.
After signing Brazilian forward Pedro from Watford, Brighton then brought in Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner on free transfers.
Belgian goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen was then signed from Anderlecht for £16.3m, with centre-back Igor then arriving from Fiorentina for £15m.
Brighton kick off their Premier League campaign against Luton at the Amex Stadium next week.
