Chelsea legend Joe Cole has been singing Ivan Toney’s praises after his performance for England last night.

Ivan Toney started in England’s 2-2 draw with Belgium and won a first-half penalty for the Three Lions.

As he so often does for Brentford, the 28-year-old took to the spot and dispatched to level things up after Youri Tielemans had put the visitors in front.

Toney has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea as the Blues consider options to improve their forward line.

It has been claimed that Toney is open to joining another club in London amid interest from Chelsea.

Joe Cole was really impressed with what he saw from Toney at Wembley last night.

The former winger was quick to highlight how well he held up the ball and the run he made to win England their penalty.

Speaking about Toney on Channel 4, Cole said: “I thought he was brilliant all night. I thought he held the ball up so well. [For the penalty] he timed his run so well and he knows there he is the boss of the situation, he has to be brought down and once he put the ball down you did not expect anything else.

“I was a bit concerned as this isn’t the Brentford stadium, this is Wembley for England and another level up but this is as cool as you like and I think he really played himself into the squad tonight. I really do.”

Ivan Toney proves himself further in England vs Belgium

It was only a friendly, but Belgium are a good side and with England trailing at home again, the penalty was a big moment for Toney.

He managed to keep his cool, though, showing that the Brentford star can be the man for the big occasion.

Toney has scored four goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season, while he netted 20 times in 33 outings last term.

If Chelsea need a goalscorer, which they probably do sitting in 11th, then Toney could be their man.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is another striker who the Blues have been linked with, but it was recently claimed that he dreams of playing for Paris Saint-Germain.
