Chelsea fans were left drooling over an impressive performance from Mykhailo Mudryk in Ukraine’s quarter-final win over France.

The £88.5million winger assisted Heorhiy Sudakov’s second goal of the match in a 3-1 win at the U21 European Championship to set up a semi-final clash with Spain.

He could now face England in Saturday’s final providing Ukraine beat Spain and the Young Lions emerge victorious against Israel.

Mudryk is one of the biggest names at the tournament following his blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge from Shakhtar Donetsk in January, and showed exactly why for his country.

Inside his own half, the 22-year-old picked out Sudakov with a wonderful lofted ball, leaving the striker one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who he rounded before slotting home.

He also showed a number of silky touches, skills and passes during his 78 minutes where Ukraine beat a France team stacked full of talent.

Chelsea fans gushed over Mudryk’s display on social media, as one user tweeted: “Yep he has been smoking that right-back all game.”

Another added: “Mudryk 23/24 player of the season we will be there.”

While a third wrote: “Said it before and I’ll say it again. This boy’s ceiling is much much higher than Kai Havertz’s. I don’t know what Arsenal were thinking.”

Mudryk already has 11 caps for the senior side, and recently helped them to a comeback win over North Macedonia with two assists in a June Euro 2024 qualifier.

Speaking following the win over France, a delighted Mudryk remarked: “We knew what we needed to do in the second half and we clearly did it and that’s why we won.

“I’m really happy for our country because our country deserves it and we will go for the next stage and give everything for it.”

Former Blues striker Andriy Shevchenko had earlier discussed his countryman with talkSPORT, and is confident he can make the cut after a difficult first six months.

He stated: “I think he has everything to show his skills, he just has to be patient and work hard, the Premier League is very competitive and it’s one of the best leagues.

“He just has to be patient and work for his chance. [The price] is extra pressure for sure, but I don’t think the talk of money makes you a better player or not, it’s probably extra pressure.

“But in the end the most important thing is that he contributes to the team and I’m looking forward to seeing Chelsea next season.”
