Chelsea are reportedly looking to go big in the transfer market this summer in order to give the best possible backing to their new manager.

Enzo Maresca is preparing for his first campaign as a Premier League manager, and an opening day game against Manchester City will be the biggest possible test for the Italian.

He will be hoping he has a number of new names through the door by then. This week saw the club announce the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after their time at Leicester City.

It has been reported that a striker is high up on the club’s list of additions, with a number of names floating round as a potential target.

One player who cropped up was Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, who enjoyed a successful loan away last season.

Chelsea offer contract to Samu Omorodion

Now, journalist Nicolo Schira has stated that the Blues have offered a long-term contact to the young striker, with him currently being Maresca’s top target.

He said on Twitter: “Chelsea have offered to Samu Omorodion (born in 2004) a contract until 2031 with a salary of €2,5M/year + bonuses for the first season to increase until €6M/year in the last season (2030/31). He still is Maresca’s main target as Chelsea’s new striker.”

The focus seems to have shifted away from the big name additions as far as a new striker is concerned.

Chelsea not yet offered for Victor Osimhen

Throughout last season the name that cropped up the most was Victor Osimhen, however it seems as if they have decided the financial aspect of that deal is not worth exploring further.

Another name who was near the forefront of their thinking was Benjamin Sesko, however he has now committed his future to RB Leipzig for the time being.

Any addition will have to compete with Nicolas Jackson for minutes, with the Senegal international enjoying a strong overall debut campaign as a Premier League player.
