Christopher Nkunku and the rest of his Chelsea team-mates have done quite a bit of training with Enzo Maresca now.

Enzo Maresca was appointed as the new Chelsea manager in June and started pre-season training with his players earlier this month.

A lot of them seem quite happy with how things are going under him so far. Levi Colwill’s described Maresca as “amazing” after only a couple of weeks working with the Italian.

It will now be interesting to see if the work that Maresca has been able to do with the team translates to the club’s upcoming friendlies.

Chelsea take on Wrexham Thursday morning in the first game of their pre-season tour of the United States, and Christopher Nkunku has been speaking in the build-up to it.

Christopher Nkunku discusses training under Enzo Maresca

Maresca is a coach who wants to see his team dominate. Leicester City’s numbers in the Championship last season show that.

According to WhoScored, Leicester’s average ball possession was 62.2%, which was the second highest in the division.

At Chelsea, it looks like Maresca wants to see similar. Discussing what he and his team-mates have been practising in training, Nkunku told Chelsea’s official website: “We are playing with the ball already a lot.

“As he told us the first day, he wants us to be on the pitch to practice football training directly. His idea is to keep the ball, so we are practicing that now.”

The forward is raring to go it seems. Nkunku returned to Cobham early and will now be hoping that he can stay fit after a season that was plagued by injuries.

Christopher Nkunku in a dominant Chelsea team

Nkunku was probably one of the best forwards in European football before his move to Chelsea.

Because of injuries, he has not got to show that at Stamford Bridge so far. But in his last two seasons at RB Leipzig combined, the Frenchman managed to score 58 goals.

In a Chelsea team that dominates the ball and creates plenty of chances, Blues supporters may get to see that kind of proficiency in the new season.

Fantasy Premier League managers will be hoping so, as the 26-year-old could prove to be a bargain. Currently, Nkunku’s price on Fantasy Premier League is just £6.5m.
