Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji has delivered some high praise of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

This comes amid rumours that Chelsea really want to sign the Bees frontman.

Ivan Toney, 27, has seriously impressed by scoring four goals in five Premier League games since returning from his long ban last month.

The only game he’s not scored in since returning was against champions Man City. He’ll get a chance to put that right when Brentford travel to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night for the reverse league fixture.

Manuel Akanji, who’s 28, is a very aggressive, strong and fast defender in the Man City side. Therefore, it’s interesting to hear him speak glowingly about the strength and quality of Brentford’s Toney.

When discussing Toney with Premier League productions, Akanji said: “It’s something he’s really good at, protecting the ball and putting his body in-between the defender and the ball… That’s one of his strengths… Don’t let him in a one-on-one in a crucial moment.”

We view Toney as a brilliant all-round striker, this includes being super strong and fantastic with his hold up play.

The 27-year-old is making a really compelling case for top clubs to try sign him this summer with the way he’s playing right now.

According to The Sun a few days ago, Chelsea are now weighing up a move to sign Toney at the end of the season. Apparently, Brentford could want as much as £80 million for their star centre-forward, but Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino is urging his club to try wrap up a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

We think Toney’s got the perfect profile to come in and deal with the pressure of playing in Chelsea’s No 9 position.

Let’s wait and see what will happen with the striker in the next few months.
