The Welshman, who had only made a handful of cup appearances since joining Shelbourne last year, ended his contract in favour of appearing on the ITV programme.

When quizzed on Van der Sluis’ exit, former Chelsea and Blackburn winger Duff produced a hilarious reply.

“I was shocked and saddened that Scott chose a villa in Mallorca full of beautiful, single women over myself, the staff and the players,” Duff joked.

“I thank Scott for his services to Shelbourne FC and we all wish him the very best for the future, whatever that holds.”

Van der Sluis is a former academy product at Liverpool and Manchester United and has represented Wales at youth level.

Despite the best years of his career ahead of him, the goalkeeper appeared happy with his change of career and insists he will be cheering on his former teammates on from afar.

“I’ve loved my time at Shels,” he said. “Football is all I’ve ever done, all I’ve ever known. So this is a new and exciting opportunity for a change-up in life.”

“Shels are a great club going in the right direction and I look forward to seeing what the lads can achieve.
